Documented theca with relics of Blessed Nicholas of Forca Palena

Oval silver crystal-fronted theca housing first class ex ossibus (of the bone)  relic of  Blessed Nicholas of Forca Palena, direct gift from the  Pope Clement XIV (1769-1774), issued only one year after beatification. The relic is affixed to the background of red silk, surrounded by golden paperolles and identified on typographic cedula label as B. Nicolai F.  The theca is sealed by the red wax seal with a coat of arms of Cardinal Marcantonio Colonna (†1793), Archpriest of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and Vicar General of the Roman Curia. The reliquary is accompanied by original matching authentics document hand-signed by Monsignor Colonna in 1772.

Blessed Nicholas of Forca Palena (†1449) Founder of a Franciscan order of St Jerome. His feast is observed on October first by the Franciscans and the Third Order Regular. His beatification received formal approval from Pope Clement XIV on 27 August 1771 after the pontiff acknowledged the fact that there was a local 'cultus' - or popular devotion - to the late religious that endured since his death. He is a Holy Patron of Franciscan tertiaries towns of Forca and Palena in Italy.
