Small reliquary theca with relic of St. Pope Anacletus (Cletus), Martyr

Small oval glass-fronted silver reliquary theca housing a relic of Saint Pope Anacletus (Cletus). The relic is affixed to a silk ground and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as S. Cleti P. (Saint Anacletus, Pope). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a perfectly-preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Monsignor Costantino Patrizi Naro (†1876), Dean of the College of Cardinals and the Vicar General of the Roman Curia (1841-1876).

Saint Pope Anacletus († c. AD 92), also known as Cletus, was a Christian Martyr and the bishop of Rome who served between c. AD 79 and his death, c. AD 92. Cletus was a Roman who, during his tenure as pope, ordained a number of priests and is traditionally credited with setting up about 25 parishes in Rome. Although the precise dates of his pontificate are uncertain, he "...died a martyr, perhaps about 91". Cletus is mentioned in the Roman Canon of the mass. He is venerated in the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. His feast day is April 26.
