Reliquary theca with relics of Blessed Leopoldo of Gaiche

Round glass-fronted  reliquary theca dating to 1920's housing first class ex ossibus (from the bone) relics of Blessed Leopoldo of Gaiche. The relics are affixed to a red silk background and identified on a typographic cedula as B. Leopoldi a Gaichis (Blessed Leopoldo of Gaiche)On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is protected by a seal of red wax with a hardly visible imprint of a coat of arms of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin sealed by Fr. Anthony M. Santarelli, Postulator General of the Order in 1920's responsible for a cause for beatification and canonization through the judicial processes required by the Roman Catholic Church.

Blessed Leopoldo da Gaiche OFM Cap. (†1815),was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and a professed member of the Order of Friars Minor called the "Apostle of Umbria", who became well known for wearing a crown of thorns. He was a preacher who went from diocese to diocese and served in a position of power in the Capuchin order in the Umbrian region in which he pushed for strong adherence to the Rule of Saint Francis of Assisi. His beatification cause started earlier than was the norm due to miracles being done at his tomb and Pope Leo XIII beatified him on 12 March 1893 after the verification of two miracles. His feast day is celebrated on April 2nd and he is a venerated as the holy patron of preachers.
